Don't Throw Pearls Among Swine
Matthew 7:6 NKJV
[6] “Do not give what is holy to the dogs; nor cast your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you in pieces.
According to Strong’s Concordance, the Greek word for “Give” is didōmi (G1325), which means, “To give of one’s own accord. To give one something, to his advantage, to bestow a gift, to grant, give to one asking, let have, to supply, furnish a necessary thing.”
Do not give that which is “holy”—the Wisdom, Principles, Precepts, Understanding, and Insight—to dogs, or those without interest in honoring God's Principles and Precepts. In Matthew 7:6, Christ takes it one step further and declares, “Nor cast your pearls before swine.” “Pearls,” in this context, are the precious Wisdom, Principles, and Precepts of God that you’ve personally applied to your life, and you’re casting them before swine.
In the Bible, swine, or pigs, are considered to be unholy. Swine are those who will eat and consume anything and everything. Pigs, or swine, do not consider the time, energy, delicacy, or effort involved in the preparation of what’s fed to them. They will consume anything.
Pearls are precious gems that you’ve gathered throughout your life. Swine are those who aren’t able to discern that which is precious, valuable, and costly, and will trample over the Wisdom, Counsel, and Godly Guidance that you’ve given them.
Swine will not take Wisdom to heart; they will pervert it. Their perception of Wisdom, Insight, Instruction, and Godly Counsel is consumed and categorized with all other common worldly advice and counsel. They’ll mix God’s Word with the word of the world. Swine will consume Godly Pearls with the common things of the world and not value the costly Godly Wisdom presented to them concerning their situation.
Take it a step further: don't cast the Wisdom that God gives you among people who do not value or honor the advice. In other words, those whose hearts are not in a place to receive Wise Counsel, Instruction, Insight, and Understanding of God.
The New Living Translation puts it this way: “Don’t waste what is holy on unholy people. Don’t throw your pearls to pigs! They will trample the pearls, then turn and attack you.” — Matthew 7:6 NLT
